Use of the Library
					 Eligibility and Registration

Students, staff, and registered external borrowers may use the Library and borrow materials in accordance with Library regulations. The University Librarian may grant access to other individuals as deemed appropriate. Library registration for students is valid for the duration of their student ID card, typically one semester or a year.
					 Suspension of Library Privileges

Borrowers who violate Library regulations may face suspension from Library access for up to five days at the University Librarian’s discretion. For more serious breaches, the University Librarian may recommend a longer suspension to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic, who will determine the re-admission date.
					 Legal Offences

Any user committing an offence related to Library use, whether under Common Law or Statute, will face legal prosecution.
					 Cell Phone Policy

Users must turn off their cell phones before entering the Library. Operating a cell phone inside the Library incurs a R50.00 fine.
					 Noise and Disruptions

Users must refrain from raising their voices, creating noise, or engaging in disruptive activities such as smoking, eating, or drinking inside the Library.
					 Handling Library Materials

Books or periodicals removed from the shelves for in-Library reading should be left on the table after use, rather than reshelved by users.
Damage and Marking of Library Materials

Users are prohibited from marking, writing on, or otherwise damaging Library materials. Borrowers returning damaged or marked items will be held responsible for the damage unless it was recorded at checkout.
					 Tampering with Library Identifications

Tampering with Library markings, such as removing or covering ownership identifiers, is prohibited. Possession of altered Library materials is an offence, unless reported to the University Librarian for inspection.
					 Theft or Removal of Materials

Users attempting to remove Library materials illegally, or found in possession of such items, are considered to have attempted or committed theft unless proof to the contrary is provided.
					 Return of Unattended Library Materials

Any user who finds Library materials unattended outside the Library must return them to the Library immediately.
Possession of Materials from Other Libraries

The University Librarian will confiscate any materials identified as belonging to another Library if it appears they were not legally borrowed. Verification will be sought with the owning Library. Materials not legally borrowed will be returned to the owning Library, with the University Librarian assisting in further investigation if requested.
					 Copyright Responsibility

Users are responsible for understanding and complying with South African Copyright Law and related regulations. Library equipment and materials must not be used to infringe or bypass copyright, nor should any infringing materials be brought into the Library.
