The current library at the Alice Campus was constructed in the 1970s and designed for fewer students than the current numbers. The small size and outdated set up demands the repurposing and redesigning of the current library as well as an extension to include a well-equipped modernized library to cater to the latest academic needs.
Our fundraising priorities feature projects which demonstrate our commitment to producing new knowledge and enabling students to pursue excellence in their respective fields.
Since its inception last year, the Fort Hare Foundation East London and Gauteng Annual Fundraising Golf Day has raised just over R1 million. The event is one of several activities in the resource mobilisation strategy in support of the University’s Decade of Renewal. Each year the Foundation focuses on specific priorities that seek to enhance the profile of the University and raise funds to support these priorities such as the refurbishment of university infrastructure and bursaries for missing-middle students.
The event starts with golfers swinging their clubs on the course and ends with a glitz and glamorous black-tie gala evening where beautiful artworks produced by our Fine Arts students as well as historical UFH items are actioned to the highest bidder. While the core objective is fundraising, the event also presents an opportunity to build sustainable partnerships with businesses and other critical stakeholders. The 2nd annual event in East London was held on the 30th of September at the East London Golf Course, the event attracted 68 golfers and partnerships were forged with 10 businesses and stakeholders.
