Research Center
Centre For Transdisciplinary Studies
Over the past decade, the University of Fort Hare has pursued a coordinated transdisciplinary approach to address complex societal challenges and align with national policy imperatives from the Department of Higher Education and Training and the Council on Higher Education. This effort began in 2006, when the Vice-Chancellor initiated discussions about a Centre for Transdisciplinary Studies (CTS), leading to the creation of the Life, Knowledge, and Action Grounding Programme (LKA/GP) in 2008. The LKA/GP served as a core undergraduate programme fostering a transdisciplinary ethos and encouraging students to use their knowledge for societal benefit. Over time, the programme evolved, and in 2023, it was replaced with a new Philosophy module called Social Transformation (STF), co-administered by the CTS and the Philosophy department, emphasizing critical, decolonized ethical thinking and action.
