E-sport

Overview

Let the E-games begin

E-sport at the University of Fort Hare was officially recognised as a code by the sports department in early 2022.

The establishment of the team was a gradual process that gained significant momentum in 2024 with the launch of the WildCatz, who enjoy the backing of UFH Sport and sponsors Red Bull.

The initiative was pioneered by individuals such as Siphosethu Msayi, Daniel Okoko, Reginald Mulaudzi, Rirhandzu Shilubane and others who have since graduated.

There were some 80 students affiliated to the code in 2024, with the number expected to grow exponentially in line with the times.

Members engage in e-sport weekly, either online or through special game days and nights at the new student centre in Alice.

Fort Hare is one of only two public universities in the Eastern Cape that offers it as a registered sport and the team have gained valuable experience by competing in friendlies against universities in other provinces.

E-sport offers students an opportunity to develop their gaming skills, network with peers and represent the university.

It fosters teamwork, discipline and leadership while offering a platform to excel beyond traditional sports.
