The University of Fort Hare proudly congratulates alumnus Thabo Mabe on his appointment as Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Dangote Sugar Plc, effective 1 December 2025.
Mabe, who graduated from UFH in 1986 with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, steps into the role following the resignation of the outgoing CEO.
Dangote Sugar Plc is one of Africa’s largest sugar producers and forms part of the Dangote Group, a leading African conglomerate with extensive interests in food production, manufacturing and infrastructure.
Mabe’s career began at Unilever as a graduate trainee, progressing through key roles in manufacturing, production, sales and supply chain. In 2010, he was appointed CEO of Unilever Nigeria Plc, where he improved operational efficiencies and strengthened market performance.
He joined the Dangote Group in 2014 as CEO of Dangote Flour Mills, where he led a successful turnaround of the business. He later headed Dangote Rice Limited, and since 2022 has served as Managing Director of NASCON Allied Industries Plc.
