Academic Biography

Dr Nare Sekoba is a Human Physiologist and lecturer in the Department of Natural and Rehabilitative Sciences at the University of Fort Hare. She holds a PhD in Human Physiology, with research interests in cardiovascular health, cancer biology, and oncohypertension. Her work includes studies on masked hypertension and cardiac function in young adults, and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer. She has collaborated on the African-PREDICT study and co-authored a book chapter with the Pan African Cancer Research Institute (PACRI). Recognised as one of the youngest PhD graduates in the faculty of Health Sciences, Dr Sekoba began her academic career in 2022 as a time-on-task lecturer and was subsequently appointed as a full-time lecturer. She plays an active role in faculty governance and currently serves on the Teaching and Learning Committee and the UFH Health Research Ethics Committee. She has also served as a reviewer for Frontiers journal and supervises three master’s students. Dr Sekoba is an ambassador for OWSD-SA and a member of the national Early Health Researcher Support Network, contributing to research, mentorship, and academic leadership in health sciences.
