Academic Biography

Dr Mikateko Florence Ndhambi is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Natural and Rehabilitative Sciences at the University of Fort Hare. A seasoned Speech-Language Pathologist, she holds a PhD in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of Cape Town and has more than 25 years of academic and clinical experience. Her research focuses on multilingual language development, culturally responsive assessment practices, and the advancement of speech and hearing care in under-resourced communities. Dr Ndhambi is the Principal Investigator for the Child Language Africa project on Xitsonga, and represents South Africa in the global ManyBabies Consortium. She served on the HPCSA Task Team on Language and Culture, serves in the Diversity, Equality and Inclusive interim committee for SASHLA and has contributed to national curriculum reviews and programme accreditations. Passionate about transformative education, she is committed to mentoring the next generation of African scholars and strengthening community-engaged scholarship.
