Dr. Patrick Mkhanyiseli Zimu is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Human Movement Sciences at the University of Fort Hare, with extensive expertise in sport science, health promotion, and physical activity interventions. Holding a PhD in Health Sciences (Sport Science) from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Dr. Zimu’s research focuses on culturally tailored physical activity programmes, sport for development, and community health outcomes in resource-constrained settings. He has a strong track record in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including Sport Nutrition, Recreation and Sport Management, and Research Methodology. Dr. Zimu is dedicated to advancing human movement sciences through innovative, student-centred pedagogies and the integration of Indigenous Knowledge Systems. He actively supervises postgraduate students and contributes to curriculum development, research leadership, and community engagement. Dr. Zimu’s research has been published in reputable journals such as the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health and the South African Journal for Research in Sport, Physical Education and Recreation. He has also presented widely at national and international conferences, sharing insights on health sciences education, digital innovation, and decolonial approaches in sport science. Committed to fostering health equity and social inclusion, Dr. Zimu collaborates with local communities, sport organisations, and development agencies to design evidence-based interventions that promote physical activity and wellbeing.
