Teaching & Learning Centre

The Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) was established in 2004 to address the changing needs of Higher Education. The focus of the Centre is to foster teaching and learning excellence to enable students and staff to derive the greatest possible benefit from the academic environment at the University of Fort Hare. The Centre provides support to academics and students through a variety of initiatives, programmes and services in three key areas: teaching development which incorporates professionalization of academic staff, the development of student learning, and the integration of technology enhanced learning.

Teaching & Learning Conference 2024

Artificial Intelligence (AI) In Teaching, Learning And Research

10th-12th September 2024, East London International Convention Centre.

This subtheme aims to critically examine and contribute to the formulation of policies that underpin the deployment and use of AI technologies in Higher Education, thereby seeking to create a framework that ensures responsible AI practices within the higher education sector. It will foster discussions on issues such as bias and fairness in AI algorithms, transparency, and accountability in AI systems, ethical considerations in AI research, and the intersection of AI and human rights. Through this focused lens, the subtheme strives to facilitate meaningful conversations, share insights, and promote the development of ethical guidelines to guide the responsible adoption of AI in higher education. It promises to be a platform for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to engage in thought-provoking dialogues, contributing to the ethical advancement of AI in the academic realm.

In the ever-evolving landscape of higher education teaching and learning, the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into teaching and learning stands as a transformative force. AI, employability, and entrepreneurship reflect the pivotal role of intelligent technologies in shaping the educational experience and preparing students for the dynamic challenges of employability and entrepreneurship. By leveraging AI technologies, higher education institutions can enhance the quality of education, personalize learning experiences, and equip students with the skills required for the rapidly evolving job market.

AI supports students and lecturers in higher education by providing personalized learning experiences, adaptive learning platforms, and intelligent tutoring systems. It facilitates automated grading and feedback, predicts student performance trends through analytics, and offers virtual assistants for administrative tasks. AI aids in language processing, research assistance, and remote learning solutions, enhancing the overall educational experience.

The Higher Education landscape is evolving with a focus on innovative approaches to curriculum design and pedagogy. The integration of AI tools in teaching and learning has emerged as a transformative force, enhancing the educational experience for both academics and students. This technological integration allows for personalized learning experiences, adapting to individual needs and styles of comprehension. Moreover, AI has also found its place in assessment methodologies, revolutionizing the evaluation process by providing more nuanced insights into students' progress and understanding. The intersection of AI and inter-disciplinary teaching has opened new avenues for collaborative and holistic learning experiences, fostering a dynamic educational environment that prepares students for the challenges of the future. As academics navigate these advancements, they are challenged to strike a balance between leveraging AI for its benefits and preserving the human touch essential for fostering critical thinking and creativity in the next generation of learners.

The field of research has been significantly disrupted by Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has re-defined study???? and opened new avenues for investigation and discovery. Artificial Intelligence (AI) enhances research projects' thoroughness and efficiency through data-driven forecasting, complex pattern recognition, and large-scale data set analysis. Researchers can uncover hidden patterns and connections by using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to make it simpler to extract insightful information from massive datasets. As AI technologies advance, the synergy between human cognition and machine capabilities may ignite a new era of multi-disciplinary collaboration and innovation in research, potentially changing our approach to and resolution of the world's most pressing issues. Personalized learning is one way that artificial intelligence (AI) is improving education using adaptive learning systems.
