UFH Lecturer, Chuma Mjali appointed as member of Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors(IRBA)

ThisWeek@FortHare is pleased to share the news of Ms Chuma Mjali’s recent appointment as a member of the Independent Regulatory Board for Auditors (IRBA). 

Her appointment was announced by Finance Minister Tito Mboweni, on 14 June. Mjali is the youngest of the 10-member board.
About Chuma Mjali 
• She is a Lecturer and Deputy Head of Department in the UFH Nkuhlu Department of Accounting, 
• A Chartered Accountant CA(SA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) with local and international experience. 
• She is also the national Head of Education for the Association for the Advancement of Black Accountants of SA (ABASA), and 
• A member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants’ (SAICA’s) Initial Professional Development Committee (IPD). 
According to her, the function of the IRBA is to help create an ethical, value-driven financial sector that encourages investment, creates confidence in the financial markets and promotes sound practices. 
“This is an important function taking into account the malfunctions within the profession over recent years, for example, the Steinhoff and African Bank matters,” she said.
UFH believes Chuma is equal to the task.
