Cwenga Sixubane, a determined first-year Bachelor of Commerce Law student at the University of Fort Hare (UFH), is making waves in the beauty industry with the recent launch of her own skincare line, The Skin Rescuer.
Hailing from Duncan Village in East London, Sixubane was inspired to start her business after receiving numerous inquiries about her flawless skin.
“People often asked about my skincare routine because of how smooth my skin was,” Sixubane shared in an interview with DispatchLIVE. “That inspired me to create The Skin Rescuer, to help others with their skincare concerns and boost their confidence with effective products.”
Despite her studies and other commitments, including hosting a radio show on Kumkani FM and organizing the Miss Summer EL pageant, Sixubane has successfully juggled her passion for entrepreneurship. She attributes part of her business's early success to personally using and endorsing her own products.
“I use these products myself, which makes it easier to market them to my customers,” she explained. “Running my skincare business not only helps those with skin issues but also provides me with an additional income stream.”
Sixubane, who crafts some products herself using recipes learned from a Johannesburg-based company, expressed her ambitions to expand her customer base beyond East London. She plans to recruit brand ambassadors nationwide once her business gains more traction.
“The profits from my business contribute to my independence and ease the financial burden on my family,” she noted. "I am proud to be an entrepreneur and aspire to grow my brand further."
While navigating challenges such as ensuring product safety during deliveries, Sixubane remains undeterred in her pursuit of expanding The Skin Rescuer.
Congratulations Cwenga, your story is a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit and determination fostered at UFH.
