New Executive and Senior Appointments
Dear Staff and Students
I take great pleasure in announcing two appointments at the executive and senior management level respectively.
Mr Charles Matumba, currently a Senior Group Finance Manager/Finance Executive at the University of the Witwatersrand, has been appointed as Chief Finance Officer from January 1st 2021. He is a Chartered Accountant with dual membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) and the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA).
He holds expertise in financial reporting, profitability and drivers analysis, financial modelling, financial planning, budgeting and forecasting, treasury management, external/internal audit management, tax planning/management, financial controls, management accounting, and financial interpretation/ IFRS.
He has well -rounded experience in strategy development, change management, performance management, relationship management and business leadership. He is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter holder.
He started his career as a trainee accountant with KPMG Zimbabwe in 2001 and rose through the ranks. Mr Matumba relocated to South Africa in 2005 and has held various management positions as Audit Manager, Senior Audit Manager, Tax Manager, Business Controller, and Financial Controller. In his current position at the University of the Witwatersrand he has oversight over group financial reporting, working capital management, financial controls, corporate financing transactions, structured finance, financial risk management, and treasury/banking operations.
Mr Hangalakani Harris Nkanyane will be joining the University on January 1st 2021 as its Chief Internal Auditor. He is a seasoned professional with over 19 years’ experience of risk management, Internal Audit and compliance management, more than 10 years of which has been at a senior management level across four organizations. He is currently Senior Manager: Internal Audit at the Road Accident Fund.
He holds two master’s degrees (an MPhil: Internal Audit from the University of Pretoria and an MBL from the University of South Africa) and two professional qualifications, as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) from the Institute of Internal Auditors and a Certified Information System Auditor (CISA) from ISACA. He completed a B Tech in Cost and Management Accounting from the University of South Africa.
Mr Nkanyane is currently serving as a Director of the Institute of Internal Auditors South Africa. Before joining the Road Accident Fund, he was the Chief Director: Internal Audit and Risk Management at the National Department of Health. Prior to that, he was the Risk and Compliance Manager at the Johannesburg Development Agency. He started his career as Trainee Accountant in the office of the Auditor-General South Africa.
I want to thank Mr Simbongile Geqeza (Acting CFO) and Mr Oyama Siwundla (Acting Chief Internal Auditor) for lending a steady hand to their portfolios over the period that they have been appointed in an acting capacity. Their respective contributions have been much appreciated and are highly valued.
