End of the 2020 Academic year and closure of residences

Read time: 2 mins

Dear Staff and Students

We have reached an important milestone in completing the examination period for the 2020 academic year. What remains is only the supplementary examinations. Thank you to staff and students for your resilience and commitment during an extraordinarily difficult year. This has made it possible to reach this milestone.

Students performed well during the first semester and we hope that the success rate will be even higher for the second semester as students have adjusted to the multimodal delivery of programmes.

As part of our normal end of year practice, residences will close on Thursday, 18 February and all students need to vacate their residence rooms on that day. Provision will be made for the small number of students who have applied prior to 15 February to stay behind as well as students with supplementary examinations. However, these students too need to vacate residences by 28 February 2021.

New students (first-time entering) may report to residences from 1 March 2021. Residences will reopen for returning students on 15 March 2021.

Please travel safely and stay safe and healthy by actively adhering to the protocols of wearing a mask in public, regularly sanitising your hands and keeping social distance.

Some of our students have completed their programmes and will not be returning for the 2021 academic year. We are looking forward to your graduation later this year.

May your formative experiences at the University of Fort Hare continue to shape you as a person. We hope to welcome you as active alumni and good ambassadors for our university.

Sincerely Professor Sakhela Buhlungu Vice-Chancellor and Principal
