Department of Information Systems - M&D Research Workshop 2015

The Department of Information Systems hosted their annual Research workshop for postgraduate student (Masters and PhD) on the 28th and 29th of May 2015 at the Blue Lagoon Hotel and Conference Centre.  The workshop is held annually to equip postgraduate students with the necessary skills required in order for them to complete their studies. The keynote speaker for this year’s workshop was Dr. Wallace Chigona who is a professor in Information Systems at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. 

Dr. Chigona is a National Research Foundation (NRF) – Rated researcher and holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Magdeburg, Germany.  He presented a lecture entitled: “Research Evaluation” that was well received by students and staff.  Dr. Piderit followed with a presentation on Ethical approval and proposal process as well as UFH policies and processes.  In addition, Cindy Martinson from TLC presented on Academic Writing and Argument line while Sam Ncoyini gave a short lecture on Mendeley reference manager and PDF organizer. Panel discussions were held at the end of the presentations where all the issues related to student/supervisor relationship and writing for publications were discussed.

A formal dinner was held on the first day of the workshop where the postgraduate students who graduated in October 2014 as well as those who graduated in May 2015 were honoured and recognized for their efforts.  The workshop dinner was attended by all staff members, representatives of other departments and post graduate students from the I.S. department.
