The University of Fort Hare is pleased to announce that the Council on Higher Education (CHE) through its Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) has conferred full accreditation status on the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme offered by the Faculty of Law. After the nationwide review of all LLB programmes offered by public universities in 2015-2016 the LLB programme offered at UFH was accorded reaccreditation subject to meeting certain conditions. Over the past year the Law Faculty together with support structures within the University worked tirelessly and submitted improvement plans and progress reports towards meeting the outstanding conditions. At its meeting of 11 April 2019, the HEQC reviewed the progress reports together with other relevant documentation to determine the progress made towards meeting the conditions specified in the HEQC accreditation report. Based on the evidence provided, the HEQC revised its accreditation decision to Full Accreditation for the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) programme offered at the University.

This outcome underscores the quality of legal education and training provided through the LLB programme offered by the Faculty of Law. It resonates with the Faculty’s vision “…to be a centre of excellence in legal education renowned for outstanding teaching and research…” as well as its mission to, among other things, “…produce law graduates who are excellent in their technical competence and  also passionate about participating in socio-economic development processes…”

The University would like to thank the Dean of the Faculty and her dedicated team together with the support units such as the Teaching and Learning Centre, the Quality Assurance Unit and the University Planner, the Library and the institutional leadership, especially the offices of the Registrar, DVC (Academic Affairs) and the Vice Chancellor as well as the University Senate and its subcommittees for the roles that they played in ensuring that this outcome is achieved.

The revised accreditation outcomes will be posted on the CHE website soon.
