27th Lesotho Alumni chapter AGM

The Lesotho chapter of the University of Fort Hare alumni association held its annual general meeting in Maseru on 7th December 2018. The chapter has a relationship with the University that dates back to the days of Prime Minister of Lesotho, Ntsu Mokhehle who is among the 5 African Heads of State who are alumni of the University.Alumni of different ages attended and most notably was 95 year old, Mr. Ntsaba who graduated 1946 – 72 years ago! Also present was Mr Borotho who once served the mountain kingdom as deputy governor of the Lesotho Central Bank.

The gathering took a reverend moment of silence t0o honor and recognise two of the chapter’s veterans, Mr. Lengolo Bureng Monyake, a 1951 BSC graduate and Mrs. Evelyn Lebona, who passed on in 2018.Then the AGM adopted the president’s report that reflected the Chapter’s activities that had committed the group to help the needy, to position the UFH alumni at the center of development in Lesotho, donate food and clothes, to visit the elderly alumni, and to assist with career guidance and remedial studies for those learners who were not performing well.

The Chapter chairperson, Tsietso Potloane, stated that the association is known for its excellence and thanked the senior alums who gave young leadership the necessary guidance.The chapter also received an invitation from the office of Her Majesty, the Queen of Lesotho to join the Hlokomela Banana project to provide sanitary towels to girls who could not afford these vital items.

The existing committee’s term of office was extended to the next AGM owing to the secretary’s report not presented as it is the core of the AGM.
