NEW IN EASYDATA
Improved search – Searching in EasyData has been improved to include comprehensive results across data sets, indicators and documents. Downloads in EViews and Stata format – It is now possible to download time series indicators and selections in XLSX, CSV, EViews and Stata file formats.

INDUSTRY SERVICE
The EasyData Industry Service provides a unique, disaggregated and consistent long-term view of South Africa’s economic structure by industry at the 3-digit ISIC level and there are 91 industries detailed within the service.

RSA Standardised Industry available for 2018
Data update: The RSA Standardised Industry data sets have been updated and published to cover 1993 to 2018. The structure and trend tables have also been updated with data for 2018.

The contribution to GDP by industry from 1994 to 2017
Article: We have used data from our EasyData Industry Service to look at the relative contribution of industries to GDP in South Africa from 1994 to 2017.
GDP growth by industry from 1994 to 2017
Article: In 2017 the average year-on-year growth in GDP in South Africa was 1.3%, the average growth rate from 1994 to 2017 was 2.8%. In 2017 the only sector that grew faster than the South African growth rate, was the primary sector which grew by 7.1%.

Data update: The RSA Standardised Regional Demographics data sets have been updated and published for 1993 to 2018.
Income & Production available for 2018
Data update: The RSA Standardised Regional Income & production data sets have been updated and published for 1993 to 2018. The data sets included are Regional Output and GVA at basic prices, Tress Index for GVA at basic prices and Location Quotient for GVA at basic prices.
Development Indicators, Poverty Lines available for 2018
Data update: The RSA Standardised Regional Demographics Poverty Lines data set has been updated and published for 1995 to 2018.

International Trade Service
South Africa Imports & Exports March 2019
Data update: Total South African imports and exports of all commodities for the month of March 2019 were R100.4 billion (up 13.07% Mar'2018 vs Mar'2019) and R105.4 billion (up 7.65% Mar'18 vs Mar'19) respectively, resulting in a positive trade balance of R5 billion for March 2019.
An Introduction to South African regional trade and industry data analysis

The purpose of this post is to explore the TRD11 data set, and to show how it could be used to visualise and analyse South African regional trade data.

South Africa Economic Forecast & Review (Quarterly report, May 2019)
Analysis & Data update: In 2019 a further contraction of South Africa’s primary sector output is foreseen, mostly driven by agriculture sector output which is forecast to shrink by more than 5%. Mining output is expected to see a marginal rise of 0.4% y/y—very similar to rate of change expected in manufacturing and also the entire secondary sector. Overall, zero growth is envisaged for the county’s real GVA.
South Africa Forex Market Overview (Monthly report, May 2019)
Analysis: The rand strengthened against most major developed and emerging market currencies in April 2019 compared with the previous month. The unweighted average change in the value of the rand amounted to 1.7%. Month-on-month, the rand appreciated most against the Brazilian real (2.7%), British pound (2.6%), NZ dollar (2.6%) and euro (2.1%). The rand also strengthened against the US dollar (1.4%), yen (1.5%) and Swiss franc (1.5%).
