International Students

2023 REGISTRATION PROCEDURE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS PRE-REGISTRATION
The Immigration Act requires all institutions of higher learning in South Africa to report accurately and keep a record of international students registered for studies at their institutions. The University of Fort Hare (UFH) is, therefore, obligated to comply with government regulations to ensure that international students are in possession of valid documents for registration. All full-time undergraduate, full-time postgraduate, occasional, semester study abroad, modular, affiliated students, and postdoctoral fellows are required to pre-register with the Office of International Affairs (OIA) before their registration at UFH.
Please see the steps below for your guidance.
Step 1: Check your admission status online (the status should clearly indicate that you are fully admitted in order to proceed with step 2)
Step 2: Payment of registration fee (banking details and the registration amount should be obtained from the finance department)
Step 3: Submission of the immigration documents to the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships (OIAP)
The following documents are required by the University of Fort Hare Office of International Affairs and Partnerships:
1st Year international students (undergraduates and post-graduates)
• Copy of passport
• Valid study visa for studies at UFH
• Admission letter or status
• Proof of medical cover recognised in South Africa (the medical aid should cover the period of 12 months, starting January 2023 and ending December 2023)
• HESA/USAf evaluation certificate (undergraduate)
• Both HESA/USAf & SAQA evaluation certificates (post-graduate)
Returning international students and postgraduates
• Copy of passport
• Study visa valid for studies at UFH
• Proof of medical cover recognised in South Africa (the medical aid should cover the period of 12 months, starting January 2023 and ending December 2023)
Part-time postgraduate students who are studying from their home countries and not in a possession of a study visa are requested to submit an indemnity form together with a letter from the faculty indicating that their programme is part-time and they are not required to be in the country. The system (ITS) should clearly state part-time for a student to be registered as part-time.
NB: An Indemnity form may be requested from the Office of International Affairs and Partnerships. A confirmation of part-time letter may be requested from the school or faculty.
Step 4: Lifting of immigration block Once all the relevant documents have been verified and captured onto the system, OIAP Officials will lift the immigration block on the system.
Step 5: Proceeding with registration If a student meet other university registration requirements, they may then proceed with registration.
