Mr Mazwi Ben Tunyiswa

Mr Tunyiswa is the Chairperson of the Fort Hare Foundation and Forth Hare University Council member. He graduated from the University of Fort Hare, obtaining a BSc (Physics and Applied Mathematics) and BSc (Hons, physics), while also working as a Laboratory Assistant within the Physics department. In 2005 he received a Mombusho scholarship to study a master degree in Japan where he graduated with a Masters in Engineering (M.Eng) at Tohoku University in 2008.  He then returned to the University of Fort Hare to be a lecturer in the Physics department and acted as the HOD between 2009-2001.

He decided to study towards and MBA degree in 2002 full time at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Cape Town. Upon completion of the MBA he then joined the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) as a Business Analyst in 2003, became an Account Manager in 2004, then Senior Account Manager at Workout and Restructuring SBU in 2006, and Regional Manager Eastern Cape Province in 2009. In December 2011 he was appointed to head the Metals, Transport, and Machinery Strategic Business Unit (Metals SBU) at the IDC.  He then became the Head of Basic Metals and Mining SBU while also acting as the head of Machinery and Equipment SBU till his departure in 2019. During his work at the IDC he has facilitated investments worth more than R20 billion in different sectors.

He has been a non-executive board member of several companies including Blue Mountain Berries (Pty)Ltd, Imithi Investments (Pty), Sharoton (Pty)Ltd, etc. He was also a member of several DTI national committees such as, DTI SEZ adjudication Committee and MCEP incentive adjudication Committee

He is currently the Chief Executive Officer Instatoll Africa (Pty) Ltd (InstaToll), a toll road management company. He is responsible for the overall management of the company and its strategic direction. He also runs Mabentu Trade and Consulting, a family-owned Investment Company that has investments in Instatoll Africa (Pty)Ltd and Instatoll Zimbabwe (Pty)Ltd. He is a member of the Institute of Directors of South Africa (IODSA) and also Turnaround Management Association of South Africa (TMA).
