Adv Sibulelo Seti

Sibulelo Seti is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Fort Hare. He joined the University of Fort Hare in 2017 and has taught many courses over the years including Maritime Law, Civil Procedure, Legal Skills, etc. His primary areas of research interest and specialization lie in Maritime Law, Aviation Law, Space Law, Commercial Law; International Commercial Transactions; and Dispute Resolution.

He practised as an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa and he is a former Member of the Cape Bar & Society of Advocates. Before being called to the bar, he served articles in a big commercial law firm and worked for various law firms in Cape Town and Johannesburg. In the end, he has accumulated over ten (10) years of practical experience in commercial law, maritime law, civil and commercial litigation. He is a member of the Maritime Lawyers Association of South Africa.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, he is actively involved in research and other academic activities such as curriculum development and postgraduate student supervision. Sibulelo Seti also acts as an external examiner of undergraduate and graduate courses for various universities. He has attended and presented papers at both national and international conferences associated with his fields of interest. He is a member of Editorial Committee of Speculum Juris Journal. He has written papers and reports in his fields of specialisation.

He has written referee’s reports in terms of the provisions of Admiralty Jurisdictions Act 105 of 1983 in relation to the sale of the following vessels: MV Kenanga; MV MV Zeynep K and MV Sadan. These reports have subsequently been endorsed and made Court Orders by the Western Cape and Kwa-Zulu Natal (Durban) Divisions of the High Court. Sibulelo Seti is also a doctoral candidate and his study is in the area of places of refuge for ships in distress.
