Prof Patrick Osode

 Patrick C. Osode is a Professor of Mercantile Law at the University of Fort Hare. He holds the degrees of LLB (University of Jos, Nigeria), LLM (University of Lagos, Nigeria) and SJD (University of Toronto). He was admitted as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in 1986. Professor Osode was first appointed as senior lecturer in Mercantile Law at the University of Fort Hare in April 1996. He was promoted associate professor in 2002 and professor in 2004. In August 1996, Professor Osode was admitted as a member of the International Academy of Commercial and Consumer Law (IACCL). Between 1999 and 2003, he served as the Honorary Secretary for the Society of Law Teachers of Southern Africa (SLTSA). In the years 2000 and 2002, he received the UFH Merit Award for Outstanding Research Output. He is co-author of a book (with Chuks Okpaluba) entitled Government Liability - South Africa and the Commonwealth (2010); co-editor of a volume (with Graham Glover) entitled Law and Transformative Justice in Post-Apartheid South Africa (2010); and author/co-author of 28 law journal articles and book chapters. His research interests currently revolve around corporate law, securities regulation, public procurement, and international trade law and government liability. He has successfully graduated (and is currently supervising) several master’s and doctoral students in his areas of research interest. Professor Osode was executive dean of the Faculty from January 2006 to March 2011; Director of the School of Law from 2002 to 2005; and Managing Editor of Speculum Juris from 2002-2008. More recently, he also served as Head of Department for Mercantile Law from 2013 to 2015.
