Welcome to the Nelson R. Mandela School of Law

Welcome to the Nelson R. Mandela School of Law. The Faculty of Law was established in 1961 and received permission to rename itself after former President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela in 1998. The School of Law was formerly established under that name in 2002.

The Faculty's vision is to be a centre of excellence in legal education renowned for outstanding teaching and  research-driven by an uncompromising commitment to the pursuit of justice and service to humanity in South  Africa in general and the Eastern Cape in particular.


In pursuit of the above vision, the Faculty’s mission is to produce law graduates who are excellent in their technical competence and passionate about participating in socio-economic development processes. It will design and deliver social justice promotion training programmes to facilitate social service delivery and undertake research comparable with the best.
