Enrolling for a Degree in Health Sciences

The Faculty of Health Sciences is one of six faculties of the University of Fort Hare and it is situated in two campuses: East London and Alice. The Faculty comprises of five departments; Nursing Science, Rehabilitative Sciences Natural Sciences, Human Movement and Public Health. The Department of Natural Sciences offers foundational subjects which are studied by all undergraduate Health Sciences students at first, and sometimes second year.

HUMAN MOVEMENT

The Department of Human Movement Sciences offers studies of exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor development, sport management, exercise science, sport psychology and general physical activity.

NURSING SCIENCE

Our Inspirational and passionate staff boasts of knowledgeable lecturers, clinical facilitators, clinicians, preceptors and administrators who ensure students get all the necessary support and balance to be competent health professionals who thrive at clinics, hospitals and during community engagements.

NATURAL SCIENCES

The courses offered in the Department of Natural Science include Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Microbiology. These courses are taught to Nursing, Speech Language Pathology and Human Movement Science students.The Department of Natural Sciences is proud to have established a Multidisciplinary Research Laboratory to conduct research in the “Infectious Diseases & Medicinal Plants’ Research Niche Area.

REHABILITATIVE SCIENCES

The Department of Rehabilitative Sciences program prepares allied health professionals to be leaders, educators and researchers in rehabilitation science. Speech and language therapists (SLTs) also known as speech therapists are healthcare professionals concerned with the promotion of normal communication, as well as the identification, prevention, treatment and management of a variety of developmental or acquired speech, language and oral disorders.
