Strategic Objectives

  1. To establish a risk and vulnerability assessment centre which links researchers and students from different departments, units, and institutions into a multi-disciplinary team focusing on strategic issues and factors of food and water security and its impact on rural and peri-urban communities in the Eastern Cape
  2. To develop the required capacity in the area of risk and vulnerability assessment in terms of food and water security among researchers at the University of Fort Hare and selected stakeholders in the Eastern Cape
  3. To plan, collate and report on data collection, processing, analyses, storage, progress being made and the dissemination thereof to stakeholders for training, research and planning purposes on the impact of climate change on food and water security in selected rural and peri-urban communities in the Eastern Cape
  4. To actively draw on and contribute to the further development of the National Atlas as a core strategic objective of RAVAC
  5. To  create, synthesize, mobilize, sensitize and assess stakeholders’ knowledge and  preparedness regarding food and water security matters in the face of climate change
  6.  To assess risks, hazards and the vulnerability of stakeholders regarding food and water security matters
  7.  Create educational resources and training programmes for communities to disseminate risks, hazards and vulnerability regarding food and water security in the face of changing climate. Thus provide opportunities for community involvement on mitigation and adaptation measures
  8.  To identify, prioritize, develop and evaluate risk aversion self-sufficiency strategies aimed at stakeholders regarding food and water security
