DHET set wheels on two
Mihle Nogaxa, a second year Bachelor of Social Wok student and Mava Ngcinane, first year Human Resource Management student were presented with their new wheels at the senate chamber- Alice in the function attended by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training, Mduduzi Manana and the Chief Executive Office of HWSETA, Ms. Yvonne Mbane on 02 August 2016.
The two were identified by the Deputy Minister during the government’s Siyahlola program earlier in the year.
“We are happy, this gives us hope and has made the impossible, possible” said Mihle who also claimed they will be able to on their own go to the library even at night.
The SRC’s Vela Kambi appealed to the university to put ramps all over for ease of access of people living with disabilities.
The university of Fort Hare is in its development phase to make sure it represents everyone and all its buildings accessible to all.
The deputy Minister appreciated the families of the two for exposing their children to opportunities of education, their zeal and commitment against all odds. “Your families pin their hopes on you, so is the government” said Manana as he also urged the two for when they return home they should improve conditions of their families.
As a caring institution under a caring government “we should make sure you are supported like others” said Mbane.
