FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES

PROFESSOR / ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Sociology (1 Post):

East London Campus

 

Minimum requirements:

  • An appropriate doctoral qualification in Sociology or related field
  • A substantial track record of accredited publications in the form of books, articles in reputable international journals, and book chapters
  • Strong postgraduate supervision record
  • Seven (7) years teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level
  • Proven ability to teach and supervise postgraduate students successfully and develop research capacity
  • Sound theoretical knowledge of the field
  • Ability to raise research funds and lead research projects
  • Ability to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental or institutional levels
  • Ability and willingness to participate in community engagement projects
  • Willingness to start as soon as possible

 

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide academic leadership
  • Facilitate teaching, learning and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Assist curriculum design and implementation of newly accredited programmes.
  • Assist with preparation of new programmes for approval and accreditation by relevant bodies in the country within a problem based and case based teaching environment
  • Participate in collaborative research projects locally and internationally
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students research projects
  • Provide leadership in community engagement projects of own speciality.
  • Integrate research in communities
  • Take responsibility in coordination of programmes
  • Proper administration of courses, student records including discipline
  • Ensure good relations with stakeholders in the clinical environment
  • Represent and contribute to building the University
