Creating Synergies and Enabling Research for Sustainable Outcomes

Speaker:
Dr Ndanduleni Nthambeleni
Executive Director: Grants Management & Systems Administration: National Research Foundation
Synopsis:

The funding of research is an enabling resource which is regarded as a critical component in the National System of Innovation (NSI) in South Africa. However, in isolation, and without a relevant context, funding may not have the desired impact. The National Research Foundation (NRF) has incubated the Innovation Fund, managed the implementation of industry-government-academia programmes such as the Technology & Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP), and has a rich experience of the synergies and collaborative conditionality required to optimise the investment into research to secure public benefit research outputs. This presentation shares the vision of the NRF (Vision 2020) and practical recommendations for enabling research in South Africa.
