UFH PhD Student Receives Prestigious Fellowship Award

Mr. Sonwabo Mazinyo a PhD RAVAC student in the Department of Geography and Environmental Science has been selected from among 179 submissions to participate in the My Community, Our Earth (MyCOE) / SERVIR Fellowship Program in East Africa. This programme is being hosted by the Association of American Geographers.Dr Leocadia Zhou, Manager of the RAVAC project,was accepted as Sonwabo’s Mentor. As a team, they will join a group of 14 other MyCOE teams from across Africa in Nairobi in December for an extensive workshop on the use of spatial databases within the context of food security research. The fellowship is a highly competitive awardwith the MyCoe/SERVIR programme being part of a 10-month long funded fellowship programme for graduate students focusing on Climate Change, Agriculture and/or Food Security. During the workshop they will also receive professional development, have access to additional mentoring by international experts, and engage in an online community with other fellows.
