University of Fort Hare’s B Prim Ed distance teacher education modules now available digitally
University of Fort Hare’s B Prim Ed distance teacher education modules now available digitally In the early years of the new South Africa, there were some ground-breaking teacher education programmes and materials, which made the highest quality pedagogic knowledge accessible to remote and neglected under-qualified teachers, and helped them develop confidence, self-esteem, and new contextually relevant ways to engage their learners and learn while teaching. The University of Fort Hare’s 240 credit four year in-service Bachelor of Primary Education for Eastern Cape teachers was one such programme. It ran from 1998 to 2006 and in that time graduated about 2000 teachers. Read more about the high quality of the programme in one of the Case Studies in the NADEOSA publication: Designing and Delivering Distance Education: Quality Criteria and Case Studies from South Africa. Saide has secured the permission of the relevant authors to digitise the study units (or Imithamo) in the programme. The units are not yet openly licensed, but if you wish to use a unit or part of a unit, Saide can offer support in securing the necessary permissions to copy, adapt, and integrate into a teacher education programme, or offer as a short course.

 Mathematical Society MathSciNet
MathSciNet® is an electronic publication offering access to a carefully maintained and easily searchable database of reviews, abstracts and bibliographic information for much of the mathematical sciences literature. Over 100,000 new items are added each year, most of them classified according to the Mathematics Subject Classification. Authors are uniquely identified (by their MR Author ID), enabling a search for publications by individual author rather than by name string. Continuing in the tradition of the paper publication, Mathematical Reviews (MR), which was first published in 1940, expert reviewers are selected by a staff of professional mathematicians to write reviews of the current published literature; over 80,000 reviews are added to the database each year. Extending the MR tradition, MathSciNet® contains over 2.8 million items and over 1.6 million direct links to original articles. Bibliographic data from retrodigitized articles dates back to the early 1800s. Reference lists are collected and matched internally from approximately 500 journals, and citation data for journals, authors, articles and reviews is provided. This web of citations allows users to track the history and influence of research publications in the mathematical sciences.
