Linguistics students speak out
An influential delegation of the Ministerial Advisory Committee on African languages from the Department of Higher Education and Training arrived at the University of Fort Hare on Thursday, May 16 with a mandate to study and evaluate the development of African languages in South African Higher education institutions. The team of experts, made up of Professor Moleleki, Prof Hlongwa, Prof Mathenjwa, Dr Mdaka and Prof Pitika Ntuli were investigating the extent to which African languages are utilized and promoted within our institution. In particular the panel interrogated the compliance of the University with the Bill of Rights, Section 6 of the nation’s constitution and the National Language Policy on Higher Education.
