The Department of Business management treated some 40 local business people at the East London Golf club to a breakfast presentation, in which one of the country’s most anticipated research projects, the Majority Report, which was conducted by the UCT Unilever Institute of Strategic Marketing was presented. The report, which was presented by Martin Neethling, a business man whose career spans 24 years in the marketing industry, is arguably the most comprehensive study to date into South Africa’s mass market and examines the lives and the buying behaviours of South Africans living in households earning less than R5, 000 per month.
On Thursday, the 18th April 2013, the Siyakhula Living Lab (SLL; www.siyakhulaLL.org) will be hosting a marketing launch to celebrate the growing together of the seed that was planted in the Dwesa community, Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape, a few years ago. SLL is an Information and Communication Technology for Development (ICT4D) intervention which was initiated in 2006. It is a result of the collaboration the University of Fort Hare and Rhodes University; private industry; and government, through the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI’s) The Technology and Human Resources Programme (THRIP), within the triple-helix Telkom Centre of Excellence programme.
