(Mathematics & Science Education):  CODE 50501

Admission

               A student shall not be admitted as a candidate for the degree unless he/she has obtained:

•    an approved Bachelor’s degree with mathematics and the physical sciences as some of the courses studied and a postgraduate educator’s diploma, or an approved composite degree in Education with mathematics and the physical sciences as some of the courses studied, or an approved Bachelor’s degree with mathematics and the physical sciences as some of the courses studied and any other approved educator’s diploma, further diploma or certificate;

•   an approved Bachelor’s degree with mathematics and the physical sciences as some of the studied courses plus a Postgraduate Diploma in Education, or an approved four year composite degree in Education with mathematics and the physical sciences as some of the studied courses, or a Bachelor’s degree with mathematics and the physical sciences as some of the courses studied (without a teaching certificate - see condition below), or any approved Educator’s Diploma (M+4) level with mathematics and the physical sciences at least up to the M level, or M+4 Technical Diploma with mathematics and the physical sciences forming part of the subjects studied, or an approved Educator’s Certificate plus a Further Diploma in Teaching mathematics and the physical sciences, or Advanced certificate in Teaching mathematics and the physical sciences.

               N.B.: Students admitted to the BEd (Hons) Degree in Mathematics & Science Education with no teaching qualification will be required to take 24 credit hours in each of Mathematics Method and Physical Science Method should they wish to obtain recognition as educators.

Duration

•   The full-time curriculum shall extend over at least one academic year and not more than two academic years.

•   The part-time curriculum shall extend over at least two academic years and not more than four academic years.

               The curriculum consists of two semester modules:

BED619                 Mathematics Education

BED629                 Science Education
