Dr. Ishmael Jaja is a Veterinary doctor by training and teaches animal health courses the Department of Livestock and Pasture Science of the University of Fort Hare. Currently in his second year of Ph.D. study under the supervision of Prof Voster Muchenje. His research area focuses on food safety and security especially aspect of parasitic and bacterial zoonosis. He has published and presented his papers in both national and international conferences. One of his articles estimated the financial burden of meat condemnation of slaughtered cattle in the Eastern Cape Province. It was discovered that several millions of rand are lost through meat rejections at the abattoir. This has a far reaching implication on food security.
