The Minquiz competition aims to encourage interest in careers in science, engineering and technology, especially in minerals and metallurgy, and to promote an awareness of the importance of minerals and metallurgy to South Africa. The competition took place at the FOSST-DC on the 14th of May 2015, hosting 18 high school team of 4 learners each from Grade 12. The teams were divided into Platinum and Gold groups.
FOSST-DC has initiated Science clubs around the Eastern Cape Province and has assisted a number of Dinaledi schools to create an opportunity for learners to develop skills beyond a formal classroom setting. These clubs also become platforms for learners to socialise, share ideas which also develop and strengthen their skills without adult involvement.
Scifest Africa 2015 was held in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape from 18-24 March 2015, and celebrated the International Year of Light. FOSST-DC participated this year as it does annually, bringing exciting interactive exhibits and fun activities.
