mobile lab Official handover at the university of Fort Hare Mandela Day

This year, the University of Fort Hare celebrated in a special way. On 18 July 2017, it hosted the Honorable Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa Nqakula when she came to Officially Handover the four mobile labs sponsored by ARMSCOR (Armament Corporation), the Agency of the Department of Defence. These are again fundraising endeavours of the UFH FOSST Discovery Centre under the leadership of Mr Phumezo Kwinana. Armscor has, so far, contributed just over R7million to UFH as part of their three year collaboration with Fort Hare. This contribution is in terms of establishing new learning programmes like Ergonomics and Electrical and Electronic Engineering and conduction of Saturday Classes for Maths ans Physical Sciences to more than 280 learners from the Eastern Cape’s rural-based science schools. Their investment is mainly on infrastructure development and technology upgrade at Fort Hare. These are all valuable contributions as Fort Hare has to align its curriculum to respond to needs of nation.

The occasion was a success, the Honorable Minister and CEO of Armscor were both presented with the UFH with UFH blazers, acknowledging their role in contributing resources for the development of one of the Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDIs). The ocassion was also to honour the late Mr Nelson Mandela, a political Stalward who was also an Alumnus of the UFH.
