Phumezo Kwinana is a graduate from the Universities of Fort Hare and Stellenbosch where he obtained MSc in Physics and MSc eng. (electrical). In 1994, he joined the University of Fort Hare as a Junior Lecturer and later a Lecturer from 1998 to date. From 2004 to date, he was appointed as the Science and Agriculture Foundation Programme (SAFP) Manager at the University of Fort Hare. Also, in 2004, he founded a Discovery Centre called FOSST, a centre that enables and encourages youth to follow careers in Science, Engineering and Technology (SET).
For the past ten years, Mr Kwinana has established a number of collaborations with national and international institutions and/or Companies. In 2013, he received a Vice Chancellor’s Award in Community Engagement in recognition of his community work. His research interests are in science education, Nuclear Physics and Electromagnetics. He has published and presented papers in various conferences and journals viz. South African Institute of Physics, Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Conversations about Foundation, South African Association of Science and Technology Centres (SAASTEC), Hewlett Packard (HP) international Summits, etc. His passion is to help improve the standard of science and mathematics education for academically disadvantaged students.
