The University of Fort Hare’s FOSST Discovery Centre has clinched yet another donation worth of R506,500.00 from the Vodacom Foundation and IDC (Industrial Development Corporation). These are again fundraising efforts by Mr Phumezo Kwinana, Head of the FOSST Discovery Centre. FOSST submitted funding proposal to these companies Vodacom Foundation and IDC) requesting their contribution on their project titled: Science and Technology Centenary Project. The project is aimed at integrating technology into teaching and learning, both at high schools and higher institutions. The official hand over for the Vodacom Foundation’s donation was on 04 November 2016.

He expressed his pleasure when institutions like Fort Hare contribute in changing the education equation by developing communities. The IDC also donated 30 desktops worth of R286,500.00 to FOSST.  “I am so excited that the IDC has positively responded to our request! The computers will replace old ones in the SAFP (Science and Agriculture Foundation Programme) computer lab that were slow and took a long time to load their operating systems”, said Mr Phumezo Kwinana, Founder of the FOSST Discovery Centre. The IDC also promised to sustain this partnership as they believed that institutions like Fort Hare have a lot to offer to rural-based communities given their geographical locations, said Mr Solomon Kgonyane, Head of the IDC Corporate Social Investment, visited the UFH to officially handover.

 

Prof. Muchenje also thanked Vodacom Foundation for their contribution and assured them that good things like these need to be well-marketed even to social platforms like Twitter etc. The two organization representatives were given UFH-branded souvenirs to mark the Centenary Celebrations of the University of Fort Hare.
