As an upshot of the partnerships that the University Of Fort Hare has, the National Empowerment Fund (NEF) has sponsored the FOSST Discovery Centre with a combi. FOSST is a community-based science centre at the University of Fort Hare, which coordinates community-based science projects. The combi will enable the FOSST to transport their facilitators for the “Saturday Classes” project and other science related projects in the province. The initiative, which is termed the ‘Saturday Classes’ project forms part of the UFH science projects initiated by the founder Mr Phumezo Kwinana in light of the centenary celebrations. The NEF has requested the presence of Mr Kwinana, who will be accompanied by one of the senior members to the handover ceremony at the Nissan offices in Pretoria. The sponsorship of NEF has come as a solution to enable the UFH’s FOSST Discovery Centre to “take science to the schools”, especially to those who cannot afford transport costs to go to Fort Hare. “With Fort Hare celebrating its Centenary, we have no doubt that this partnership has come at the right time where UFH has to accelerate its professional development of supporting effective science and mathematics instruction in rural schools” states Mr. Kwinana. The University of Fort Hare highly appreciates this sponsorship and hopes for a continued partnership with the NEF.
