 nGAP LECTURER – DEPARTMENT OF ADJECTIVAL LAW 

EAST LONDON

SALARY: R 450 000 P.A. (All-Inclusive Package)


 

The University of Fort Hare, Faculties of Science and Agriculture and Law seeks to fill nGAP Lecturer posts These are permanent posts funded from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP). The nGAP involves the recruitment, support and retention of highly capable young scholars as new academics in the disciplines below.

The nGAP Programme provides a wonderful supporting environment for aspirant academics to complete their studies while developing teaching and learning, research and innovation as well as community engagement skills. The Programme covers a six year period consisting of a 3-year development programme plus 3 years induction thereafter. The nGAP Scholars will be immediately appointed into permanent positions at the University of Fort Hare.

The following generic criteria are applicable:

  • Interest in becoming an academic
  • Be 40 years or younger
  • Evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study
  • Be willing to commit to placement at the University of Fort Hare for the full 6 years of the programme.

Participation in all components and activities of the nGAP programme for the duration of the contract; Completion of a postgraduate degree/s in the relevant field of specialization during the first three year of employment as an nGAP Lecturer. At least 80% of the positions will be allocated to black and/or women South African citizens.


 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Teach various modules in Adjectival Law as well as Private Law, Public Law, and Mercantile Law
  • Research and publish in accredited/referred journals;
  • Participate in the community engagement initiatives/programmes of the School/University;
  • Participate in the development of new modules/academic programmes; and,
  • Perform any other administrative/academic tasks as may from time to time be assigned by the Dean of Law or his proxy.

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • The minimum qualification is an LLM degree or admission as an attorney or advocate and evidence of progress towards obtaining one.
  • Some practical or professional experience will be an advantage since the position relates to procedural law;
  • Some experience in teaching law (and research) in the higher education sector as junior lecturer, graduate tutor/assistant;
  • This is a development post in which the incumbent is expected to complete the Master of Laws degree and also obtain a doctorate in law within the first five years of appointment. If already in possession of a Master of Laws degree the incumbent is expected to register for a doctorate in law forthwith upon assuming the position.  The candidate is also expected to undertake and participate in professional development in teaching and learning in the higher education context

Included in the above remuneration is the company contribution to our compulsory pension fund, medical aid contributions, life cover and an optional annual bonus.
