TLC SENIOR CONSULTANT: TEACHING AND LEARNING CENTRE

(RE-ADVERTISEMENT)

                ALICE CAMPUS – REF NO: 038

                 GRADE 7


 

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The successful appointee will assist with the evaluation of teaching, modules, programmes and courses; assist with offering of modules on the PGDHET programme; assist with the curriculum development and review of modules, programmes and courses; serve on other teaching and learning related committees on the East London campus as well as on the HEAIDS committee that integrates HIV AIDS into university curriculum.  The incumbent could also be asked to become involved in the coordination, design, development and support of the Induction Programme jointly run by TLC and the HR Department.

 DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Develop and support academic in curriculum development initiatives
  • Design, develop and facilitate student and teaching development workshops, seminars  and colloquia
  • Support departments and individuals (staff and students) with teaching and learning interventions in the areas of curriculum development and programme reviews, online evaluation of teaching and courses, e-assessment, facilitation in PGDHET,  et cetera.
  • Conduct research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Doctoral degree or evidence of progress towards a PhD (preferably in Education or English) or any relevant degree for Academic Development.
  • Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in Higher Education
  • A successful track record in curriculum development and review at tertiary education level
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning theory and practices in HET relevant to TeL
  • A strong interest in student development in Higher Education
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and inter-personal skills plus a cooperative spirit
  • Well-developed organisational, supervisory and administrative skills
  • High level of proficiency in MS Programmes and the use of Blackboard Learning Management System
  • Knowledge of Enterprise Survey System used for uploading of evaluation questionnaires on-line
  • Good Report writing and Research skills

*It is strongly advised that applicants familiarize themselves with the different pivots of the Teaching and Learning Centre (TLC) and efforts of promoting quality enhancement of University teaching and learning.
