TEACHING AND LEARNING CENTRE

EACHING AND LEARNING CONSULTANT:  SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION (SI) AND PEER ASSISTED STUDENT SERVICES (PASS)

ALICE CAMPUS - REF NO: 433

R 435 051 – R 540 620 P.A. (All-Inclusive Package) 


 Applications are invited from qualified and experienced candidates for the above-mentioned permanent position in the Teaching and Learning Centre. The successful individual will develop, monitor and supervise Supplemental Instruction Leaders (SILs), train and monitor student facilitators such as Tutors and Language and Writing Consultants (LWCs), and manage the PASS venue.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Manage the PASS venue’s resources and activities;
  • Train and develop student facilitators on the SI model;
  • Supervise Student Assistants (SA);
  • Liaise with academics and other role players during recruitment of Supplemental Instruction Leaders and any facilitation matter;
  • Conduct research on Supplemental Instruction (SI).
  • Marketing of SI and PASS activities;
  • Perform other TLC pivot activities as delegated.

  

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES

  • A Master’s degree in Education/ other cognate field/ or progress towards a Masters’ degree.
  • Three (3) years’ experience in supporting learning through Supplemental Instruction (SI) and other Peer Assisted Student Services (PASS).
  • Advanced Training in the SI Model and strong interest in student development
  • Evidence of formal professional development in the various areas of teaching and learning in higher education.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and inter-personal skills.
  • Well-developed organisational, supervisory and administrative skills.
  • Good research and report writing skills.
  • A high level of proficiency in MS Programmes.
  • Sound knowledge of Technology enhanced Learning (TeL)
