DEPARTMENT OF AGRONOMY

SENIOR LECTURER : HORTICULTURE

ALICE CAMPUS - REF NO: 1220

R 537 636 - R 668 851 p.a. (All-inclusive package)


 The Department of Agronomy, Faculty of Science and Agriculture is seeking the service of an individual committed to excellence in teaching, research and community outreach in the field of Horticulture. The successful applicant will be expected to teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses; supervise post-graduate students at MSc and PhD levels and conduct research; monitor and maintain laboratory and greenhouse facilities:

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Teach undergraduate and post-graduate courses in Horticulture (Fruit and Vegetable Production), Plant-Water Relations, Plant Physiology and Research Methods;
  • Attract research funding to support post-graduate student training
  • Supervise MSc and PhD students;
  • Participate in the administration of the Department of Agronomy
  • Any other responsibilities assigned by the Head of Department

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • PhD in Horticultural Science
  • At least five years teaching experience at tertiary level
  • Research experience supported by a good publication record and ability to attract research funding;
  • Knowledge of biometry and statistical analysis programme package(s);
  • Certificate/Diploma in Higher education;
  • Sound knowledge of computer and web-based teaching and learning;
  • Hands on experience in field and greenhouse irrigation installation and monitoring;

Included in the above remuneration is the company contribution to our compulsory pension fund, medical aid contributions, life cover and an optional annual bonus.
