FACULTY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES & HUMANITIES

Professor / Associate Professor / Senior Lecturer: African Languages

PROFESSOR: R 824 012 – R 1 026 820 p.a. (All-inclusive package)

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: R 664 424 – R 827 335 p.a.  (All-inclusive package)

SENIOR LECTURER: R 537 636 – R 668 851 p.a. (All-inclusive package) 

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
  • Participate in community engagement;
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects;
  • Designing modules and reviewing them in line with SAQA exit level outcomes
  • Conducting research in the development of African Languages, producing academic publications, especially in accredited journals

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Possession of a Doctoral Degree in African Languages (IsiXhosa)
  • 7 years teaching and research experience at tertiary level
  • Ability to supervise research and develop research capacity.
  • Knowledge of general linguistics theory and/or literary theory
  • Knowledge of applied linguistics, including lexicography, orthography, translation and interpretation
  • Demonstrated ability to undertake administrative responsibilities at departmental or institutional level.
  • Ability and willingness to participate in community engagement projects.
  • Research articles in accredited journals
