DEPUTY REGISTRAR OFFICE - GOVERNANCE AND LEGAL SERVICES

LEGAL COMPLIANCE OFFICER

ALICE CAMPUSES – REF NO: 8069

R 537 636 – R 668 851 p.a. (All-inclusive package)

 


 

Applications are invited from qualified and experienced candidates for the above-mentioned permanent position in the Governance and Legal Services:

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Collaborating with other Business Units Heads to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution
  • Responding to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Standards of Conduct by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures
  • Participating in the development, implementation and refinement of a system for uniform handling of complaints about such alleged violations
  • Identifying potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk,
  • Developing/implementing corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and providing general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future
  • Working with all relevant departments to develop an effective compliance training programme, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and managers
  • Monitoring the performance of the Compliance Program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness
  • Prosecuting in student disciplinary cases
  • Maintaining a comprehensive record of all contracts, agreements and memorandums of understanding in which the university is involved
  • Ensuring that all contracts comply with the minimum standards safeguarding the university against any legal claims

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • An LLB degree
  • Completed articles of clerkship or two years post university qualification experience in a university or private company’s legal department.
  • Familiarity with compliance management will be an added advantage
