Office Of The Vice Chancellor

Deputy Vice Chancellor – Institutional Support  5 year performance based contract  (Alice)

SALARY: Available on request (All inclusive package)

The University of Fort Hare invites suitably qualified individuals to complement its senior management team in providing strategic leadership to the University. The prospective candidate will lead and participate in University wide decision making processes. The incumbent will be expected to drive the strategic operational management and leadership of the following portfolios Human Resources, Information and Communication Technology, and Properties and Services.  Reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor.

DUTIES

  • Provide strategic advice and support to the Vice Chancellor
  • Promote  the Universities profile and transformation in line with its ambition provision of  high quality education of international standards
  • Determine, articulate and lead the implementation of the portfolio's strategic operational initiatives in accordance with the University's strategic goals.
  • Conceptualise and provide strategic direction within the portfolio with regards to the implementation of appropriate and timely internal responses to changes in the external environment.
  • Maintain and promote management and leadership excellence.
  • Promote and sustain excellence and performance within the portfolios.
  • Provide conceptual input and leadership in the development of relevant policies and strategies within the portfolio.
  • Assume, where required, executive responsibility for specific priority projects or interventions within the portfolio.
  • Manage and develop physical infrastructure on all campuses
  • Secure high-quality governance and administration systems functioning within the portfolio
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with key government, private organisations, partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring effective and efficient management and utilisation of the financial and other resources within the portfolio.
  • Effectively managing risks within the portfolios.

Requirements: 
  • A  PhD or equivalent, CA or MBA/MBL an added advantage.
  • Substantial executive management and leadership experience in Higher Education.
  • Solid strategic management, resource management and people management experience.
  • Excellent knowledge,  of Higher Education policy and its role in socio-economic transformation
  • A well respected leader with exemplary personal qualities of integrity, sound judgement, energy, passion and interpersonal skills who is able to attract and motivate the academic community, students, alumni and external stakeholders in the University's drive to provide best practice Human Resources, Operations and Information and Communication Technology related practices.
